Relocated on the third floor of Bal Harbour Shops in Miami Beach, Makoto Restaurant is a pillar of Japanese cuisine by Michelin-starred Chef Makoto Okuwa, who has been working alongside Stephen Starr, founder of STARR Restaurant Group. In 2022, the restaurant was completely revamped with a project by interior designer India Mahdavi, who was inspired by the idea of combining a French brasserie, a Japanese restaurant, and an American diner.

With a color scheme of coral pink, saffron, and sandalwood, walking into the space is a complete breath of fresh air. Making way outside, the design emulates the 1930’s era, with vintage-inspired chairs and beautiful hues of green florals.For this project, India Mahdavi created a bespoke version of her Limited-Edition Clover Chandelier, designed for WonderGlass.

The original design was characterised by a green and black colour palette, here translated into amber and white to match the atmosphere. WonderGlass also manufactured a series of Clover appliques that harmoniously illuminate the restaurant’s tables. The delicacy of pulegoso glass of the bespoke lightings is combined with supersize floral motifs and palm trees, creating an exotic oasis enriched by vintage hints. In a crossover of cultures, the experience of a landscape at sunset is coupled with an exquisite experience of taste.
