The local burned down in 2006 and what was once a gentleman’s bar, became a semi-pub, totally dark, where wood paneling and wool carpeting once shone, now it was black paneling and vinyl flooring.

The main objective was to recover the essence of what it once was: restoring windows and balustrades, with wood paneling, wood and brass bars, leather upholstery, floral wool carpeting and unique pieces such as a bespoke crystal chandelier.

Almost all the lamps were designed for the project with craftsmen from differents parts of Spain. As well as a carpet was inspired by an antique, now with contemporary new colours. Of course, the mythic painting of Cardenal Mazarino, still presiding the room and hanging in the same place as always.

We have worked with traditional European fabrics from Gastón and Daniela. For example, the velvet of the curtains from upstairs, is a reproduction of a velvet from Genoa, the bench’s fabric at the entrace comes from an 18th century tapestry and is woven by intermingling woollen yars that given it consistency. The yellow line fabric of the windows on the ground floor, has the typical French line. All the textiles could be found in an English gentlemen’s club, where the wools and velvets are mixed.

Thanks to an archive picture of the opening’s day, we could reproduce the marquee with the original neon.
