The project is located in Jonava – one of the smaller but yet striving industry-based Lithuanian cities with the population of 30000. A young local family of second-generation furniture makers have decided to stay in their hometown and manifest that a contemporary in-style living is possible here, just 5 minutes walk away from the socialist plattenbau-type housing estates of a rather dull-planned town.

A small neighborhood of post 2000’s single family houses, altogether very hectic in their architectural styles, shapes, colors and materials, represents a very common suburban landscape of Lithuania. A diagonally sloping narrow slot of land between two neighbors has but one amazing feature – a patch of a swampy natural structure with a group of beautiful mature trees – an accidental oasis amidst the landscape that was persistently drained and flattened by the local land developers.

The dark external shell houses a light and open interior space, which is not all completely defined and made flexible enough to evolve on its own.The interior design is inspired by the local furniture industry which was developed en masse since 1946 and employed a significant part of the city’s population. The furniture made in Jonava has been famous all over the soviet union for their finest quality and even prestigious custom made items.

There are only three types of materials applied for the interior finishing: polished concrete, white painted surfaces and walnut veneer that wraps along the whole inner perimeter of the common spaces integrating all the furniture, doors and appliances.
