设计缘起
Design Genesis



凡物是在法国创立的服装品牌communs对于空间以及器物审美的延伸;设计之初,在主理人Seth与建筑师张家赫讨论这个空间设计意向时,展现了一个东方人视角下游历世界的所见所闻,从东欧,到南美,从西亚再到北非等,同时又提出这个空间要具有融合东方与西方的状态,既要展现一个东方人西方审美意境的理解,又要体现西方人对于东方审美态度(指的是泛东方,包含中国、日本和东南亚等等)。


Fanwu, an extension of France’s communs fashion brand’s aesthetics of space and objects, was founded. During the initial design discussions between Seth, the proprietor, and architect Zhang Jiahe, a perspective emerged from an Oriental viewpoint, showcasing their observations and experiences as they journeyed the world. This voyage spanned Eastern Europe to South America, and from Western Asia to North Africa. The objective was to craft a space seamlessly merging Eastern and Western elements, encapsulating both an Eastern interpretation of Western aesthetics and a Western take on Eastern aesthetics (encompassing the broader East, including China, Japan, and Southeast Asia).

凡物主理人Seth与建筑师张家赫已相识十余年,他不仅是一位时尚设计师,也是一位周游世界的旅行者和收藏家,所以对于空间设计,不仅需要体现东西方文化的交融,也要将其游历世界期间所收藏的物件更好的呈现。于是便有了一个思考:如果浅显的将东西方融合这一要求表达,很容易产生对于东西方文化符号元素的堆叠,从而陷入一种混乱无序的状态。建筑师从众多藏品器物中看到很多设计精巧的古董的木柜,打开柜门之后,里面暗藏许多机关:有抽屉,有暗盒…结构极其精巧,如同一个微缩的建筑。由此他不禁联想,这些木箱可以拥有建筑般复杂的结构,多样的空间,那建筑为什么不能也如收藏柜般,收藏下不同文化、不同时间的器物,甚至是将整个空间都收藏进来。从而,凡物空间就被设计成一个充满机关的收藏柜,这样既不会产生浮于表面的符号堆砌的焦虑,有可根据时间的变化,随时更换柜中的收藏。


Seth, Fanwu’s owner, and architect Zhang Jiahe have known each other for over a decade. Seth is not just a fashion designer, but also an explorer and collector. Consequently, the design needed to blend both Eastern and Western cultures and also exhibit the treasures Seth amassed during his travels. This brought forth a pivotal question: How could the fusion of Eastern and Western elements be expressed without culminating in an overwhelming heap of cultural symbols, leading to chaos? The architect noticed intricately designed antique wooden cabinets amidst numerous collected items. Upon opening their doors, these cabinets revealed concealed mechanisms, including drawers and hidden compartments. These cabinets resembled miniature architectural marvels. This observation sparked a profound idea: If these wooden cabinets could possess architecturally intricate structures and versatile spaces, then why couldn’t architecture itself function like a cabinet, harboring objects from different cultures and eras, even encapsulating entire spaces? As a result, the Fanwu space was conceived as a cabinet brimming with concealed mechanisms. This approach avoids superficially piling up symbols and instead enables the gradual rotation of collected items in the cabinet as time progresses.

项目选址在上海市中心的一幢三层老洋房中,为了恢复房子所拥有的时间痕迹,将内部原有的二次装修全部拆除,房子原本的砖石墙面和木结构便被暴露出来,把房子的结构和早已渗水的墙面进行加固修复,并重新布置了水电线路,将木梁、楼板、窗框和楼梯等房子最原始的材料进行了打磨与上蜡保护。


The project is situated within a three-story old Western-style house in downtown Shanghai. To restore the house’s time-worn character, all secondary renovations were dismantled. The original brick walls and wooden structures were exposed, with structural reinforcement and repair of water-damaged walls. Furthermore, electrical and plumbing systems were reconfigured. Original materials like wooden beams, floors, window frames, and stairs were meticulously polished and waxed for preservation.

贯穿一、二层空间中央处的储物系统,是空间概念的灵魂所在。丰富的材质肌理包覆简约的几何结构,让整体的视觉平衡。顺应墙体设计并设置灵活结构,翻转、推移…使得柜子可满足多种使用情境。中立柜中的每一格安置隐藏式光源,方便展示照明。


The central storage system coursing through the first and second floors stands as the soul of the spatial concept. Rich material textures enfold simple geometric structures, attaining overall visual equilibrium. Adapting to the wall design, flexible structures were integrated, allowing for rotation and translation of the cabinets to suit diverse scenarios. Each compartment within the vertical cabinet houses concealed lighting, facilitating display illumination.

时间拼贴
Collage of Time



将整个一二层视作巨大储物柜,立体化展现着他游历世界的见闻和物件。漫游空间,像走入结构精巧的古董木箱中,可移动的机关设计则让空间旅途充满惊喜。


The entirety of the first and second floors is envisioned as an immense storage cabinet, presenting Seth’s experiences and collected objects from his travels. Roaming through this space feels akin to stepping into an intricately designed antique wooden chest, with movable mechanisms that bring the spatial journey alive with surprises.

空间中的拼贴手法立体演绎着中古储物箱的修补痕迹。老木板、大理石和皮革等材质并存交织,材质肌理拥有各异的面貌,同时又相互连接。抽象来看,丰富的材质也是主理人丰富的游历缩影。


Collage techniques within the space vividly replicate the patched-up appearance of medieval storage chests. Different materials like old wood, marble, and leather coexist and intertwine, each texture bearing a unique appearance while also interconnecting with others. Abstractly, the rich material variety reflects Seth’s diverse journeys.

几何穿行
Geometric Passage



储藏柜的精巧结构则化作空间中的几何体块穿插,走进空间像是穿梭在不同的分格中。入门庭院处,烧杉板的内敛细腻与彩色玻璃的张扬强烈,冲撞出凡物特有的叙事视角,跳脱特定风格与陈规,材质与体块之间自由流动。


The intricate structure of the storage cabinets translates into geometric blocks interspersed throughout the space. Entering the space is akin to moving through various compartments. At the entrance courtyard, the reserved subtlety of the cedarwood contrasts with the vibrant intensity of the colored glass, creating a unique narrative perspective distinctive to Fanwu. This design transcends specific styles and norms, allowing materials and structures to flow freely.

顺着动线入内,阳光透过彩色玻璃,如滤镜般向内投射斑斓。庭院地砖延伸至内,当门打开,内外开放而通透。裸露的木质天花,将空间的时间性袒露,与来者坦诚相待。木横梁之下,石材与木柱结合的长桌,作为陈列区。长桌后方绿色大理石材似背景墙,并设有搁板,辅助陈列展示。


Moving along the circulation path, sunlight filters through the colored glass, projecting colorful hues like a filter. The courtyard’s tiled flooring extends indoors, and upon opening the door, a sense of openness and connection between the interior and exterior is revealed. The exposed wooden ceiling exposes the temporal essence of the space, welcoming visitors with honesty. Underneath the wooden beams, a long table formed by combining stone and wood serves as a display area. The background behind the table is constructed with green marble resembling a feature wall and includes shelves for auxiliary display.

继续向里,绿色大理石体块作为陈列区内嵌入墙,与短墙形成穿插关系。尽头处的墙面延续绿色大理石,整块解构为分散的几何图形,拼贴式点缀空间。


Continuing further, a green marble block is embedded as a display area within the wall, creating an interplay with a short wall. At the end, the green marble extends onto the wall, deconstructing into dispersed geometric shapes that embellish the space.

03
梦境周游
Dreamlike Odyssey



上至二楼的楼道墙面铺陈老木板,指引动线。看似无章法的拼贴设计,赋予空间奇异的故事性,如同梦境周游。整个二楼空间通过布局与陈设构建日常生活场景,柔和暖光更为整层空间镀上油画般的朦胧质感,客厅、餐厅、洗手间… 如同现实中的平行世界。


The corridor wall leading to the second floor is adorned with aged wooden boards, guiding the circulation path. The seemingly unordered collage design imparts a surreal narrative to the space, akin to a dreamlike odyssey. The entire second floor employs layouts and displays to create everyday scenarios, and soft warm lighting blankets the floor, evoking an oil painting-like ambiance. The living room, dining room, restroom—each space embodies a parallel reality.

靠窗处木质长桌椅陈列中古餐具,窗户边框点缀宝格丽大理石块面,窗边放置一本陈旧的相册,隐喻着中古物件的叙事性,也预示着空间充满故事与可能性。


Near the window, a wooden table and chairs showcase antique tableware. The window frame is adorned with blocks of Bvlgari marble, while an aged photo album rests by the window, symbolizing the narrative of antique objects and foreshadowing the space’s stories and possibilities.

凡物取自“平凡之物”,空间中随处蕴藏使用痕迹的材质让品牌理念具像化。跨越时空的对话发生在百年房屋与源自欧洲的中古建材中,营造出整体巨大中古储物箱的空间感知。


Fanwu is derived from “ordinary things,” and the materials bearing traces of usage throughout the space bring the brand’s philosophy to life. Spanning across time and space, dialogues unfold within a century-old house and medieval European building materials, creating an overarching sense of a vast medieval storage chest.

未来,随物件的更替,空间也将不断变化,从物到空间整体一以贯之的凡物美学,是流动的状态,一切的变化都将发生在一次次游历之中。而灵活的空间设计,得以一次次将游历之物悉心储藏。藏纳记忆与时间的无形储物柜,不局限于某一种固定的面貌,生活本身,即是非线性的叙事,周边的物件是最为忠实的记录者。


In the future, as objects change, the space will also evolve, embodying the enduring Fanwu aesthetics that consistently flow across both objects and spaces. The intangible cabinet of memories and time doesn’t confine itself to a fixed appearance—life itself is a nonlinear narrative, and surrounding objects are its most faithful chroniclers.
